Warwick Davis, the beloved actor known for his unforgettable roles in Star Wars, Willow, and, of course, the Harry Potter series, has recently been honoured with one of the most prestigious awards in the British film industry—the BAFTA Fellowship. This honour, presented to him at the recent BAFTA Awards fellow Harry Potter alumni Tom Felton, marks a crowning achievement in Davis’s illustrious career, one that spans over four decades in the film industry.
The BAFTA Fellowship is the highest honour the British Academy of Film and Television Arts can bestow, recognising individuals who have made an outstanding and exceptional contribution to the film, television, or games industries. It is an acknowledgment of the artist’s lifelong dedication to his craft and to his lasting impact on the world of entertainment.
In his acceptance speech, Davis dedicated the award to his late wife Samantha, also an actor. The pair were married for 33 years before her death in March 2024 and their children, Annabelle and Harrison, were visibly emotional in the audience as their father expressed his gratitude for their support during an incredibly difficult year.
“She was always so supportive of my career, encouraging me to grab every opportunity with both hands,” he said.

He then thanked someone who he called ‘Sponge’ for “helping him to laugh and love again.”
Warwick Davis’s career is nothing short of magical. From his first role as the iconic Ewok, Wicket, in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (1983), Davis immediately demonstrated a natural talent for bringing unforgettable characters to life. Over the years, his impressive range as an actor has taken him from Willow, where he starred in the title role, to his memorable appearances in the Harry Potter franchise.
As Professor Filius Flitwick and the Goblin Griphook, Davis brought a sense of warmth, humour, and even a touch of menace to his roles. His portrayal of Flitwick, the beloved Charms professor at Hogwarts, is especially notable for its gentle kindness and magical enthusiasm—traits that fans of the series have come to adore. His role as Griphook, the cunning and sharp Goblin at Gringotts, showcased his ability to take on darker, more complex characters. Davis’s performances in both roles helped cement his status as a true wizard of the screen, earning him a permanent place in the hearts of Harry Potter fans around the world.
Despite the immense personal hardship, Davis has continued to work and bring his magic to the screen, participating in projects that remain dear to fans. His recent work includes hosting Life’s Too Short, a semi-autobiographical series that blends his dry humour with moments of poignant vulnerability. He has also hosted game shows Tenable and Celebrity Squares and been part of an hour-long special with adventurer Bear Grylls called Bear’s Mission with Warwick Davis.
Warwick Davis’s journey is a story of perseverance, passion, and an enduring love for his craft. He is, without a doubt, one of the most beloved actors in the world of fantasy and film, and the BAFTA Fellowship serves as a fitting tribute to a career that has brought so much magic to audiences everywhere. As fans of Harry Potter and beyond, we’re grateful for his contribution to the magical worlds he has helped bring to life and look forward to the many more moments of magic yet to come.
